| Sometimes I make myself laugh --case in point:
9:53:26 PM jere7my: How's you? 9:53:39 PM Sorky: Not bad 9:53:51 PM Sorky: Cleaning room, kinda 9:53:56 PM jere7my: Ooo. 9:53:59 PM Sorky: May be out of energons 9:54:06 PM Sorky: Will have to beat up some cars until I get more
I really really like the concept of beating random machines until they give me energon cubes.

My day is going somewhat better. I have an obscenely chocolate...thing that is actually far too much on the wet chocolate1 side of the spectrum for me to actually enjoy it, and potato chips, and mango nakedsmoothie.
And Italianstuffs went okay, I just have to get with the memorizing. Oh hey, dear everyone! I give you FULL PERMISSION to hit me with sticks if you ever hear of me giving my students group projects. Seriously, man. *such* a bad fucking idea.
Also, student center is significantly better air conditioned than my room. Looks like Ver and I are going to have to be social for a while. eirghnkglgvojrmninety fucking degreesgkhjalefg
Oh good, I have talking privileges back. And yes, this *does* appear to be an "eight dozen posts in one day" day, however did you guess?

| Ohmygod!
So, just after the xkcd meet-up, I joined the xkcd forum for a while. Out of it, I wound up making a friend, Phi, who I talked to for a while on IM, before eventually losing track. Oh well.
So yeah. I don't think I've talked to him in more than a year. He IMs me today, which is pretty cool, because, hey, geek.
3:43:42 AM Phi: So, first things first, really. 3:43:59 AM Phi: I kind of wanted to thank you for being like the first person I talked to outside of xkcd on the interbutts. 3:44:06 AM Mostly Just Sor: Haha 3:44:08 AM Mostly Just Sor: Okay! 3:44:15 AM Phi: Beecause this led to me wanting to hop into some chatroom. 3:44:20 AM Phi: Which led to me meeting one of the mods. 3:44:28 AM Phi: Which led to me dating her for now over a year! \o/
I ee'd. Because seriously. Awww. And it is *all* kinds of warmfuzzy to know that that was my fault.

| So, Arisia was pretty awesome. I was at a bit of a weird place hormonally (Anyone want to trade?) but the incredible emotional high of spending a weekend with a lot of people I really quite like totally made up for it and gave me a wonderful rush of homeness.
"Steampunk is easy. All you need is goggles and a top hat." "Yeah, if you WANT to look like a poseur."
(Sorry. Am having conversation while updating. I am scum like that.)
Annndyes.
So.
Here's the awesome(?) news. The fun of Arisia last year was that the monday of it was the day I could move back into my dorm. So, like a sensible person, I assumed that the monday of this years Arisia was the day I could move back in.
Classes start on the 26th. Dorm opens on the 25th. I have a week in Boston to screw around!
So, yeah. I'm going to enjoy being able to spend time in my city as it's meant to be, what with the good and glorious SNOW everywhere to play in. (I suspect I'll be sick of it as soon as I have to walk anywhere ever, but in the meantime, ohmygod, SNOWWWW!)
My shoulder is being read over, which is always slightly disconcerting not because I mind the words being read, but because it always tends to make me self-conscious when I am watched in any way, and doubly so for what I lamely consider my art. 'Specially because I tend to have just abysmal grammar.
Annnnd I'm going to finish packing now. Byeeee.

| Some thoughts:
*Working on a big resolutions from last year and for this year and lots of trustbabble post
*Phones and the way I use them is on my mind right now
*So, whenever I was last trawling the Comics Curmudgeon hardcore, which I think was back during the summer (possibly even *early* summer) I started reading this blog that got linked in there at some point. Today, I learned that the author is the dad of one of my friends from high school. Um...yeah. The world is small sometimes.
*I'm gonna start a commune
*I kinda want to do a "best of 2008" posts thing
*OHSHIT! My secret livejournal project that I was going to work on for 2009! I'll post that in a minute.
*Still need to figure out how I'm getting to and sleeping at the Dance Flurry in February
*Dancing is cool. I like what Larry said about being a historical dance group that doesn't particularly like historical music. This has led me to begin1 finding songs in my collection of generally modern stuff that are danceable. Most recent additions are a handful of Who Killed Amanda Palmer songs --"Runs in the Family" and "Ampersand" are waltzs (though the former is far too fast to actually dance to), "I Google You" is a blues, and "Guitar Hero" is a really good one-step.
*I like that spellcheck thinks danceable is a word.
*I should be entertaining to Swing somehow, but my brain is a little bit out of social, which is why I've been playing on the internet for some time anyways.
*My nails are longer right now then they've been just about ever. On the one hand, that makes 'em really good for scritching people. (From the New Year's Party-- "Kat, I love my wife, but you've made me realize her one big flaw --she doesn't have nails!") but on the other, I'm going slightly insane having them so long, and am going to bite them all short probably before I even make it back to Boston for Arisia.
And I'm sure there are more things on my mind, but I think I'm out for now. Byeee!

| Soyeah. Roundabouts February, I decided to start keeping track of the status messages I use on my IM. This is the second collection (hit the tag 'statusmessages' to get the first), and unlike the first, it's not complete (I tossed out the boring ones) and semi-annotated.
It's still hella long though, and therefore behind a ( cut )
Also:
Me: *for reasons too complex to go in to* Stupid male recovery period. Josh: You want to know the real reason for the male recovery period? Me: yeah? Josh: It's so we can go get you a sandwich. Me: ...What? Josh: See, you're all spent and worn out and hungry. And so we go get you a sandwich. Me: Josh, I hope you realize that you have just damned the man who takes my virginity. Because it'll be all "Oh wow, that was great, now, get me a sandwich!" and he'll be all like "Huh?"

| You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.
Please copy mine below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out :)
(And yes, if you post this, I will read all of it and not just skim it.)
1. First Name: I respond to Sor and Kat with equal frequency. My first name proper is Katarina.
2. Age: I've been saying 19 for about a month now, and repeatedly having to correct myself --I don't know why I spontaneouly aged a year four months ahead of when I'm supposed to. I'll turn 19 for real on August 28th. Until then, I'm eighteen.
3. Location: I'm currently at The Empty City in Maryland. I'll go back home to Cambridge, MA roundabouts the very beginning of September. If you want more specific information on either of those locations, ping me on IM or something.
4. Occupation: Thrift Store Bitch. I work the register and just generally keep the store looking nice. No, I can't go to the back room and get stuff before anyone else, but yes I do get a discount.
When I can find a place to sell them (I'm really considering becoming a part of Etsy), I make earrings with interesting things hanging off them --rubber chickens, dinosaurs, dragons, ninjas, devil ducks, cocktail monkeys, and origami cranes mostly. Hopefully, I'll be stealing table space from the friend of mine I work for at cons and selling them at Otakon.
5. Partner?: I made an official decision about six months ago that I was going to attempt to reduce drama by keeping my relationship stuff out of my livejournal. I'm much more loose-lipped with who I may or may not be dating on IM.
6. Kids: Eh. I always forsee myself as having them sometime far into the future, but every time I try and actually think about it, I realize what an utterly shit world this is, and how I'm really not sure I want to increase the population and bring more people into it. I'm also not wholly sure I'm mentally sound enough to be responsible for another person, considering I still have frequent moments of inability to be responsible for myself.
And then, of course, there's the whole birth thing. I'm a little bit non-keen on getting pregnant and giving birth. It seems, from all accounts, to be resoundingly not fun. (though, on the plus side, it would increase my cup size. :P)
7. Brothers/Sisters: Actually related to me by blood, I have one younger brother (Nik, 17) and one younger sister (Aly/ tolkienkookad, 15). They're pretty rad.
I have declared myself to have three older sisters and one older brother, by nature of that's what our relationship feels like to me. The sisters are Mell ( thestoryiswrong), who I haven't actually seen in years (which makes me sad), Lauren ( zaphod_groupie), who I only know online, and Keira ( shield_toad111) who is related to me in multiple ways, not the least of which is she is my official Bad Influence. My older brother, who I'm not sure is aware of the fact, is Spence ( jmspencer), who's one of the tech kids. I'm currently wondering if another one of the tech kids, my friend Jim, might also be an older brother. Relationships are hard to quantify, sometimes.
Related to me because they are my mother's surrogate children are a HUGE number of people -- muzikmaker21, fuechen, macaroniandtuna, sonsashi, anneroyster, harena, drama_angel3189, the elljayless Alex, and possibly forexample --I'm not sure of his place in the family.
Related to me through the magic of the interwob is my half sister (same magical interwob father, different magical interwob mother) Ky ( jestingly_yours). She's the one who I'm talking about when I refer to my incest-sister.
8. Pets: The Empty City contains two cats, Whimsical Opportunity (Whimsy) and Thirty Steps of Death (TSoD). I don't own any personal pets, though I kinda want a snake. I am not so much an animal person though.
9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
1) I have a job now! Woo! I'm going to be working as much as I can this summer! Woo!
2) The big one, of course, is that I'm currently in between my first and second years of going to college in order to become a high school math teacher. But you knew that.
3) Girl Scout Day Camp, which I babble about often --next week and two weeks after that. It's my first year as an adult, which is Just Weird.
4) Origins is coming up, and I actually kinda need to start packing. It's a really big gaming convention. I am...moderately excited for it.
5) This is the summer of weddings and babies, apparently. I claim no particular interest or responsibility for any of the babies, but I'm going to make it to at least one of the weddings --my clone's best friends, out in California. I'm trying really hard not to arbitrarily decide to fly home by way of Boston (mostly because I can't get the time off work and I'm not sure mom would be thrilled with this idea) in order to go to jere7my and adfamiliares's wedding, a week and a day after Amanda's. On the plus side of being at Kat's house, I will (presumably, assuming plane tickets work out) get to meet swingerzetta this summer, he being one of the prettiest people I know.
6) I'm rapidly increasing my ability to dance. Luckily, I know the right people to be able to do this --DarkEric has been roped into being my official ride to the Glen Echo contra dances, and my occasionally official ride to Oella and the Conservatory for Sunday night ballroom dancing. He's also probably going to be my ride to SCD once that starts this Monday.
(Also, *glee*, SCD, it's been frigging forever --by which I mean six weeks-- since I've been able to do any of that.)
10) Where and for what did you go to school for?: Like I said above, I am currently going to college in order to become a high school math teacher. The reason for high school is because I don't want to wipe noses and tie shoes all day and you cannot pay me enough to get me to go through middle school again, the reason for math is twofold --Mr. Hopper and Mr. Smith.
Mr. Hopper remains the single worst teacher I have ever had in my entire fucking life. While I know that most of my failing pre-calc tenth grade year was due to my own lack of effort and not properly applying myself blah blah, I'd like to think that he was at least partly responsible.
Mr. Smith, on the other hand, is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He helped turn math into this cool and enjoyable thing again, instead of a hated1 torture.
So between being all "Hey wait, math teachers can be neat" from Smith and "Jesus Christ, I could teach better than you and I don't even know the material!" from Hopper, I decided that high school math was where it's at.
11) Parents?: My real life mom is werewulf, and she is incredibly awesome. My real life dad does not have an elljay, and he is awesome in a quieter, more dignified, sort of way. If you like my personality and my general sensibilities, you will probably like my mom.
I am the illegitimate love child of muzikmaker21 and fuechen. Which reminds me, I forgot to wish Nathen a happy fathers day on Sunday --sorry mate. Happy Fathers Day.
I have a Boston mommy, persis, who is also my con-mommy and is totally wonderful. Dave and Diane (Boston) can also be considered to be Boston parents, though I'm not sure the words have ever been used to describe them thus. They're more "friends of my real parents who live close by and have laundry machines and real food".
My best friend's mother is pretty much just my secondary mother. I love you Sha!
And, of course, because our relationship just wasn't complicated enough, my duel-clone artemisfowl2nd is my father, and I am her son. I don't have a mother from that relationship. Also, she's a horrible father and will not let me have a pony.
12) Who are some of your closest friends?: Dunno, define closest. Right now, I'm closest to Alex since he's lying on the couch I'm leaning against.
My Best Friend is Veronica ( drama_angel3189), and has been roughly since we met, in third grade. (You want feeling old? I have been friends with my Best Friend for almost eleven years now. This is awesome.) She's also one of the people in the world who makes me most consistently paranoid that I'm not good enough, ohnoes, but that's a rant, and doesn't belong right here.
The person I'm mentally most similar to is almost certainly my clone, OtherKat. She induces much less paranoia in me, mostly just because we're similar enough in mindspace that I can better predict her reactions to things just by going "And how would *I* react to that".
In Boston, my best friend is Lauren. Yes, I picked one twin over the other --I am clearly a horrible person or something. My best friend would be Kate Monster if we ever got any time whatsoever to hang out, just because she games and enjoys long intellectual discussions and cool stuff like that.
People who I can spend a million hours talking about everything and nothing to are thorog and marcmagus. There are complications here involving geas's, but they don't especially matter in the short run. Also, tho has been stolen by having a life -damn him- and so I talk about everything and nothing to him less often than I used to.
(His newfound life involves dancing. I cannot possibly be upset)
Andyeah. There are other people who I feel close to at any given point, but it cycles. Pretty much every time I spend time with Chris, I feel like I should be spending more time with him, for instance, and I need to waste more time having discussions with Alex and chilling out with ShadowKevin and setting things on fire with Harena. Friendship is weird.

1: GOD, I AM A LINGUISTICS DORK! I just spent half a minute trying to decide whether or not I needed to put the accent on hated, to emphasize that it's meant to be pronounced hate-ed. I blame jere7my, and his stupid problem of the "all candles are wicked" thing. Bastard.
In unrelated news, bastard is one of those words that I always spell wrong, and immediately correct, as opposed to a word that I always spell wrong and don't know how to fix, like colomn. Column? Coll-uhm. Basterd of a word. | comments: 8 comments!! or Leave a comment! |

"And quite athwart goes all decorum"

"It is great to have a giant's strength, but it is tyrannous to use it like a giant"

| So, day!
Woke up at eleven thirty or so. Totally intended to stay in bed through three hits of my (five minute) snooze alarm, but my bladder expressed disapproval of this and I had to get up1. This is, I'm sure, more than you wanted to know.
Washed hair2, got back to the room, found a message on my phone from Maddie being all "food?" Went and ate lunch with Maddie and Emily and Ria, Maddie ran off, Ria, Em, and I went up to Ria's room and watched YouTube videos for a while. Eventually, Ria had to catch the shuttle to AIB, so Emily and I went walking towards Harvard Square, so I could run a SEKRIT MISSION and so Emily could meet up with her boyfriend.
Secret mission accomplished, boy gathered, and Maddie aquired (we found her!) the four of us trekked off towards Oona's, which is a bit like a high end thrift store. Or, in other words, it's one of those stores that steals money using magic money stealing techniques. On the plus side, I now have a bitchin' brown velvet jacket that I'm sure I will use in some costume, someday (It was only two dollars!) *and* I have another short skirt3. So, I suppose it was a successful trip.
Walked back, hung out with Maddie for a bit and chatted, then walked inside the student center, totally intending to go upstairs and get on my blacks and get Vera and stuff. Got waylaid by a bunch of awesome people, including Nick Wookie and his mom, and the ever-wonderful LezzieBeth, who is the biggest dyke on campus. And this is Boston, so that's saying something.
Quote of the day is wins:
Beth: Yeah, and I've been asked to be in threesomes like twelve times. Nick: Beth! This is my MOTHER! Nick's Mom: *covers Nick's ears with her hands* It's okay, I have been too. Nick: ..........*dies*
And I have resolved to tell everyone in the cast this quote, in order to get revenge on Nick for yesterday when he pulled me onstage during bows. Fucker.
Andyeah. Have been doing theatre things since about five. *waves and runs off to continue*

| Theatre Quote of the Day!
Katrina = Isabelle in the play Measure for Measure.
Katrina (to Pat): I'll marry you if you go get me a tea. Evan: God, you're easy. Me: Dunno, she didn't say she'd have sex with him. Pat: Naw, the marriage isn't valid until it's been consumated. Me: Ah. [to Katrina] God, you're easy. Katrina: *shrugs* Evan: Geeze, you wouldn't have sex to save your own brother, but you'll have sex to get tea?
(For the unknowing, in M4M, Isabelle is a wannabe nun whose brother is going to be killed. She is offered the chance to save her brother by having sex with the evil Angelo. Being a wannabe nun, she's not entirely keen on this idea.)
Also, fun theatre fact! Extended amounts of audio feedback make the Sorcyress start hyperventilating!!

Liam!: I know.
Sor: ...And I am stealing it. For should I ever get married
Liam!: And then, when we get to the honeymoon suite, I open the door, and the "secret room" music plays. "dee-doo-doo-dou-do-duh-dee!"
Sor: Bahahaha
Liam!: And, and, and, after? After the nudge-nudge-wink-wink! Final Fantasy victory music! Da-da-da-daaah duhn da dahn duh daaaahn! doo do dooo do dee dee doo de doo...
